Guilty Gear Cancelled Rumour

Last month, a report stated that a new Guilty Gear project had been cancelled at developer Arc System Works — but now, producer Ken Miyauchi says it was simply a made up rumour.

Speaking to Dexerto, Miyauchi doesn’t even try to dodge the question, replying: “It’s kind of funny, but I didn’t know about it. It was just a rumor. It’s interesting to see that kind of rumor coming out of nowhere.”

The original report was published as an exclusive scoop on the reliable Insider Gaming, leading many — including ourselves — to believe in its accuracy. However, Miyauchi seems baffled by the report’s existence.

“What I know is that it’s not in my hands. I don’t think I have ever seen that [rumoured game], and we are not that big of a company, you know? So, if I do not know about it, then it probably didn’t exist in the first place,” he jokes.

So there you have it — this rumoured Guilty Gear project apparently never existed, leading us to wonder about the report’s original source. We suppose it’s possible that wires were crossed somewhere, and the cancelled “game” was actually something smaller, like a scrapped DLC character or update. We’ll probably never know…

Still, this is good news for fans of Arc System Works and Guilty Gear in general, since it means that everything’s ticking along behind the scenes.

Given the success of Guilty Gear Strive, a new Guilty Gear game feels like an (eventual) inevitability — but the developer will obviously want to get Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls out of the way first, and wrap up support for Strive (which is now continuing into 2026).

What was your take on this rumour? Did you believe it, or did it always seem a bit strange? Don’t feel guilty in the comments section below.

He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played ’em all. A little too much, some might say.
