It can cost thousands of dollars to earn enough duplicates of a 5-Star character in Genshin Impact to max out their Constellations, so word of a new item earned through further duplicates that will let you break the level cap of 90 is proving somewhat controversial.
Here’s how it works: if you pull for a 5-Star character already at C6, you’ll earn a new resource named Masterless Stella Fortuna which will allow you to take any Level 90 character up to Level 95. You’ll need another Masterless Stellar Fortuna to reach Level 100.
This is going to be a rare occurrence, because realistically only the biggest spenders will have any 5-Star characters at C6 – we’re really talking about serious amounts of money here, unless you’ve only ever pulled for one or two characters over the past five years.
It’s a controversial system but it ultimately doesn’t matter. We can’t imagine HoYoverse will be designing any of the game’s content around Level 100 characters considering how rare they’re going to be. As always, you should be able to complete practically everything in the game if you’re free-to-play, which is how it should be.
This is all part of the game’s Luna I update, which is due out on 10th September and represents the start of a new storyline for the game.
You’ll head to a new region named Nod-Krai, which has been teased for quite some time now. There you’ll meet a new cast of characters, as you stand alongside Lauma of the Frostmoon Scions in the fight against the Fatui. As long as you’ve finished Liyue’s storyline, you’ll be able to skip directly ahead to the new content.
Here’s what the blurb says:
“In Nod-Krai, an ancient elemental force known as Kuuvahki permeates the land, shaping both its terrain and its living beings. Players can draw upon this power, hidden within plants, mechanisms, and even the land itself, to overcome challenges in exploration. They may also take on the form of a unique elemental lifeform, the Kuuhenki, gliding swiftly along small patches of mist and Moonlanes. In battle, Kuuvahki reveals itself in both enemies and allies, requiring Travelers to devise targeted strategies to prevail – and granting certain characters the ability to unleash special Lunar Reactions.”
Three new Nod-Krai characters will be available to pull for: Lauma, Flins, and Aino. The latter will be free for those who progress the story, although you will be able to pull for her Constellations in the second phase of the update.
Here’s how all three characters play:
“Lauma, the Moonchanter and a five-star Catalyst wielder, introduces the new Lunar-Bloom reaction with her Dendro powers. Utilising the Verdant Dew, a special resource generated from the Lunar-Bloom reaction, she can boost her team’s Bloom-related damage. With her unique bond with animals, she can even take on a half-human, half-deer form to sprint and leap with agility. Flins, a five-star Polearm wielder, commands Electro with Lunar-Charged strikes – unleashing either a devastating single blow or a storm of spear attacks. As an experienced Lightkeeper, he can also hear the whispers of the Wild Hunt during exploration. Meanwhile, Aino, a four-star Hydro Claymore wielder and creator of Ineffa, brings both mechanical ingenuity and a touch of home. Her workshop and inventions, including the duck-shaped combat device ‘Knuckle Duckle’, add playful new interactions to the adventure.”
As this is the start of a new storyline for Genshin Impact, rewards will be plentiful, including a free 5-Star character, a bunch of gadgets, and at least 20 free pulls just for logging in.
HoYoverse is also working on a Roblox-inspired game creation engine for Genshin Impact that will enable community members to create minigames utilising the game engine. This will debut in the Luna II update later this year, but demonstrations shown already include tower defence, top-down RPG-like adventures, and shooting galleries. The possibilities are potentially endless.
