Two years ago, as part of its commitment to education and civic engagement, the Fayette Chamber of Commerce launched its first National Civics Bee in collaboration with the U.S. Chamber Foundation. The initiative encourages middle school students to deepen their understanding of American democracy, engage in respectful discourse, and build trust in institutions and one another.

On June 27, Fayette County’s own, Kaden Jawaad, a rising 8th grader at Bennetts Mill Middle School, earned top honors at the Georgia State Civics Bee hosted by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Foundation. After placing in the top three at the local competition hosted this past March, Kaden’s exceptional performance secured him a coveted spot at the National Civics Bee in Washington, D.C. this November. This prestigious event brings together the most civically engaged middle school students from across the country.

“This is a tremendous honor not only for Kaden and his family, but also for our entire community,” said Leonardo McClarty, President and CEO of the Fayette Chamber. “The National Civics Bee is a tremendous program that teaches and encourages middle school students to be civically aware and engaged. As our local winner in 2024 and state winner in 2025, it is fitting for the Chamber and the Fayette community to show our support for him by sponsoring his trip.”

To ensure Kaden can focus on representing Fayette County with pride, the Chamber is seeking community support to cover the costs of airfare, hotel accommodations, and meals for the trip. Contributions can be made by check payable to the Fayette Community & Leadership Foundation, the 501(c)(3) arm of the Fayette Chamber. Alternatively, contributors can donate online.

Kaden’s journey is a testament to the power of civic education and the potential of young leaders to shape the future. His story has already garnered attention in the local press. To learn more about his achievement, click here
The Chamber invites all residents and businesses to join in supporting Kaden’s journey to the national stage. Your generosity will help ensure that he can share his voice, ideas, and passion for civic engagement with the nation.
