The Made in Abyss series is expanding! A new series of anime movies will be released, beginning next year with one titled Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi (translated as Made in Abyss: Awakening Mystery). There’s no trailer yet, but this visual was released, and it includes Tepaste and Cravagli, two new characters.

A lot of the original cast and crew from the previous anime iterations are back for the movies. That means that Mariya Ise plays Reg, Miyu Tomita plays Riko, Shiori Izawa plays Nanachi, and Misaki Kuno plays Faputa.

The movies are being made at Kinema Citrus, with Masayuki Kojima of Black Bullet and Tibetan Dog back in the director’s seat. Like before, the series composition is being handled by Hideyuki Kurata, whose other credits include Samurai Flamenco and The World God Only Knows. Likewise, we’re getting the same character designers: Kazuchika Kise, known for Ghost in the Shell: Arise Alternative Architecture, and Yuka Kuroda, who worked as a designer on Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun.

As a way to celebrate the new movies, there is going to be a film concert series on February 8, located at Tokyo’s Nakano ZERO.

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the original manga by Akihito Tsukushi and gave this description for the story:

Made in Abyss Plot

Explore endless possibilities in this fantasy series that inspired the hit anime!

In an age when the corners of the world have been scoured for their secrets, only one place remains unexplored–a massive cave system known as the Abyss, filled with monstrous creatures and lost relics. Those who delve into its depths are known as Cave Raiders. A young orphan named Riko dreams of following in her mother’s footsteps as a Cave Raider, and when she meets a strange robot while exploring the Abyss, she is one perilous step closer to achieving her goal!
