Dr. Depuydt is an established presence in the education sector and currently serves as the superintendent and K–5 principal at North Central Area Schools. After accepting these roles in 2024, he has held broad oversight of faculty evaluations, student discipline and all aspects of finance and policy across the district. His leadership has proven to be a positive influence on solving the district’s challenges, and he proudly helped secure a $15.4 million grant from the Michigan Department of Education’s Section 12B Internal Consolidation Grant to build a new school.
Before progressing to his current position, Dr. Depuydt thrived as the high school principal at Bark River Harris School from 2021 to 2024. During his tenure there, he prioritized the enhancement of academic programs and fostered a supportive environment for both students and staff. Prior to that, Dr. Depuydt served as the principal at Carney-Nadeau Public School District from 2018 to 2021, where he began installing innovative educational strategies that would later define his career.
Dr. Depuydt initiated his career in academia as a high school mathematics teacher at Carney-Nadeau Public School District from 2014 to 2018. His passion for teaching and connecting personally with students became evident early on, and it was during this time that he realized the potential impact he could have by transitioning into an administrative capacity. Dr. Depuydt has since joined professional organizations such as the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators, the American Association of School Administrators and the Michigan Association of School Boards, through which he has built a robust network and made additional contributions to the field.
Exceptional academic credentials further define Dr. Depuydt’s profile. He holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and teaching from Northern Michigan University and a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from the same institution. Notably, he earned a Doctor of Education in K–12 leadership from Central Michigan University in 2024 as well as an Education Specialist degree from Northern Michigan University in 2020. His research regarding teacher relationships with chronically absent students will be featured at the ICPEL conference in Windsor, Canada this July. To enhance his abilities to serve a diverse student population, Dr. Depuydt also secured certifications that include math and chemistry teaching, and he holds principal and superintendent licenses in both Michigan and Wisconsin.
Dr. Depuydt remains actively involved in civic activities such as volunteering with local organizations and coaching baseball and tee-ball. He is also part of a school improvement team and serves as a special education director at North Central Area Schools. To achieve balance, he enjoys outdoor activities such as camping and traveling with his family. Looking toward the future, he will persist in his effort to inspire others by being an exemplary model of persistence in the face of personal challenges and continue to collaborate in creating an inclusive district where students, parents and staff feel welcomed and valued.
