From 2020 to 2024, he worked as a teacher assistant at the same school, developing his skills in classroom management and student engagement. Mr. Hughes began his career in education as a special education paraeducator at Lakeview from 2019 to 2020, gaining direct, hands-on experience supporting students with special needs.
Before entering the field of education, Mr. Hughes worked as a client associate at Merrill Lynch in Bridgewater, New Jersey, from 2018 to 2019. He also held positions as a senior client service representative at Georgeson from 2017 to 2018 and as a licensed trade specialist at Computershare Limited in Edison, New Jersey, from 2014 to 2017. Mr. Hughes’ earlier roles included serving as a registered representative at Georgeson from 2012 to 2014 and as a participant services specialist at Computershare Limited from 2006 to 2012.
Mr. Hughes’ academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in all grade special education from the University of Evansville, which he earned in 1992. In 2025, he achieved one of his most notable accomplishments by earning his provisional teaching certificate from the New Jersey Department of Education at age 57, marking a significant milestone in his professional journey.
A member of the Council for Exceptional Children, Mr. Hughes is recognized for his expertise in special education and unwavering dedication to student development and advocacy. His determination to excel for the benefit of those around him and his motivation to give back have been driving forces throughout his career. These qualities have not only contributed to Mr. Hughes’ success but also continue to inspire his work with students.
Outside his professional life, Mr. Hughes enjoys traveling and bike riding.
