Dr. Marsh has established a distinguished career in academia, marked by her dedication to teaching, research and service. Currently serving as an associate professor of psychology and department chair at Ottawa University in Surprise, Arizona, she is deeply involved in shaping the academic landscape for her students. Her responsibilities encompass teaching nine to 10 courses per academic year, engaging in research activities and contributing to the university’s service initiatives. Dr. Marsh is particularly focused on developing students’ research skills and has been instrumental in launching a campus-wide scholarly research and creative arts poster session.

Before being acquired by Ottawa University, Dr. Marsh’s professional trajectory included significant roles, such as senior data analyst at the Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation at Arizona State University from 2016 to 2021 and as an associate professor of psychology at Park University between 2011 and 2016. During her tenure at Park University, she organized a state-level psychology research conference that brought together students from across Missouri, showcasing her commitment to advancing undergraduate research.

With a tenure in higher education dating back to 1999, Dr. Marsh first taught as a part-time instructor at Highland Community College in Wamego, Kansas, and then at Manhattan Area Technical College in Manhattan, Kansas, in 2000. Concurrently, Dr. Marsh was hired by Kansas State University in 1999, where she initially worked as a part-time instructor before being named coordinator from 2002 to 2003 and assistant director between 2003 and 2005. From there, she excelled as an assistant professor of psychology at Missouri Western State University in Saint Joseph from 2005 to 2006 and in the same role at the University of Central Missouri between 2006 and 2011.

Dr. Marsh’s expertise has extended beyond teaching. She has been actively involved in assessment-related roles at every institution she has served. Her contributions to accreditation processes with the Higher Learning Commission and internal reporting have been invaluable. Recently elected as the faculty representative for the School of Arts and Sciences on Ottawa University’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Marsh views this role as an opportunity to influence high-level decisions and contribute strategically to the institution’s direction.

In preparation for her future, Dr. Marsh’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in psychology from DePaul University in Chicago in 1996. She furthered her education at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas, where she earned a Master of Science in psychology in 2001 and a Doctor of Philosophy in social and personality psychology in 2004. Dr. Marsh’s doctoral training emphasized an interactionist approach to psychology, examining how social contexts influence individual characteristics. This foundation has informed her teaching and research throughout her career.

Dr. Marsh’s involvement with civic-minded organizations includes volunteering as a tutor at Ottawa University, Arizona, reflecting her commitment to community engagement. In light of her success, she has received several accolades, including being named Outstanding Professor at both the University of Central Missouri in 2009 and Park University in 2015.

Throughout her career, Dr. Marsh has demonstrated persistence and inner resolve, attributes she credits for her success. Her mentorship has had a lasting impact on many students, including those who have gone on to make significant contributions in their fields. As she continues to guide future generations of psychologists, Dr. Marsh remains committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic learning environment that empowers students to achieve their professional goals.
