Marriott International has announced the promotion of Alfonso Orona to Multi-Property General Manager, effective August 1, 2025.
In his expanded role, Orona will oversee operations at The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, The Ritz-Carlton Suzhou, and the upcoming Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, bringing fresh leadership to three of the group’s most talked-about properties in China.
Orona’s journey in hospitality began early.
Born into a restaurateur family, he was already fine-tuning his service instincts in the family business by the age of 13.
A true global citizen, he grew up between Mexico and Spain, eventually joining the hotel industry in 1996.
Of his nearly three decades in the industry, 15 years have been spent with Ritz-Carlton.
His leadership experience spanned properties in Beijing, Xi’an, Tenerife in Spain, Muscat in Oman, and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
Since 2021, Orona has served as General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, where he’s become known for driving results with finesse.
Under his leadership, the hotel has exceeded revenue and GOP targets year after year, climbed in brand visibility, and achieved stellar scores in Marriott’s internal LQA (Luxury Quality Audit) and BSA (Brand Standard Audit).
Beyond numbers, Orona is credited with steering creative collaborations—from designer afternoon teas and art exhibitions to diverse culinary activations that reflect both local culture and Ritz-Carlton’s global standards.
These moves have kept The Ritz-Carlton Beijing in the spotlight and earned it a reputation as a luxury hospitality trendsetter.
A long list of accolades follows him, including a Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star award, the Forbes VERIFIED Responsible Hospitality Badge, and honors from DestinAsia, and Condé Nast Traveler Awards among others.
In recent years, Orona himself has been named ‘Outstanding Hotel GM of the Year’ by Travel & Leisure World Leisure Awards and received similar nods from Annual China Hotel Awards.
Looking ahead, Orona shared:
‘China has been the highlight of my career. With innovation and cultural connection at the heart of what we do, I look forward to leading these three landmark properties as a benchmark for luxury in Greater China.’
