Taxable sports betting revenue in Massachusetts hit $48 million in July.

Sports betting revenue and handle in Massachusetts increased year-on-year in July, though the state’s market shrunk to its lowest monthly level of the calendar year so far.

Taxable revenue for July amounted to $48 million, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported. This surpassed last year by 16.5% but fell 22.7% from $62.1 million in June, the previous low in 2025.

Of July’s total, $47.6 million was attributable to online betting, while retail wagering revenue hit $567,407.

As for handle, players spent $489.5 million betting on sports in July. This beat the prior July’s handle by 18.9%. Online wagers topped $483.2 million, with retail handle at $6.3 million.

This resulted in a monthly hold of 9.81%.

DraftKings draws over half of Massachusetts betting revenue

Looking to operators, there is seemingly no stopping DraftKings in its home state of Massachusetts, as it remained the runaway online leader in July. DraftKings took $24.3 million in revenue – more than half the state’s monthly total – off a $238.9 million handle for a hold of 10.17%.

FanDuel was again the closest challenger with $12.3 million from $121.6 million, leaving a 10.12% hold. BetMGM claimed third with $4.4 million off $38 million for an 11.05% hold.

Just behind BetMGM was Fanatics, posting $4.4 million from $55.3 million, meaning a hold of 7.96%. ESPN Bet fell short of the $1 million revenue mark, reporting $980,740 from a $13.9 million handle for a 7.03% hold.

Caesars followed with $765,128 off $14.8 million, resulting in a hold of 5.18%. Bally Bet completed the market, posting $314,682 off a $3.7 million handle for an 8.45% hold.

As for retail, Plainridge Park Casino took top spot with revenue of $245,762. Having taken $2 million in wagers, this meant a hold of 12.58%.

Encore Boston Harbor was next with revenue of $221,823 from $3.5 million in bets for a 6.33% hold. Finally, MGM Springfield reported revenue of $857,275, meaning an 11.64% hold.

Massachusetts casino revenue hits $99.5 million

The state regulator also published figures for the land-based casino market. In July, revenue reached $99.5 million, level with last year and 1.8% ahead of June 2025.

Slots accounted for $72.2 million of this figure, with table games generating $27.3 million. Encore Boston Harbor led the sector with a total of $60.2 million, ahead of MGM at $24 million and Plainridge Park’s $15.3 million.

In terms of tax, the total received by Massachusetts in July was $38.1 million. This included $9.6 million from sports betting and $28.5 million from casino gaming.
