Microsoft’s 50th anniversary celebrations continue with the launch of USD 80 Windows XP-themed Crocs, available initially to employees. The release follows a year marked by significant restructuring, including over 15,000 job cuts across various divisions.

Microsoft is turning 50, and instead of just blowing out candles, it’s decided to blow our minds, with Crocs. The company has quietly cooked up a limited-edition pair of Windows XP-themed Crocs, and sources tell The Verge they’re currently up for pre-order, but only if you’re on the Microsoft payroll.

Each pair of Crocs is priced at $80 and includes six Microsoft-themed Jibbitz charms, decorative accessories that attach to the upper of the Croc. The charm set features nostalgic Microsoft icons such as the Internet Explorer logo, the original MSN butterfly, a mouse pointer, and the widely recognised Clippy assistant.

The design of the Crocs is directly inspired by the Windows XP “Bliss” wallpaper, with a green sole mimicking the grassy hill and a blue upper representing the sky. The Bliss image itself, captured by photographer Charles O’Rear in California’s Sonoma County in 1998, was later licensed by Microsoft and became the default wallpaper for Windows XP devices in 2001. It is widely considered one of the most viewed photographs in history.

In addition to the footwear, each order includes a drawstring backpack featuring the same Bliss design. This accessory is meant to visually reinforce the Windows XP theme for onlookers and collectors alike.

This isn’t Microsoft’s first time stepping into the world of branded footwear. Back in 2023, it teamed up with Crocs for a Minecraft-themed collection that included clogs, slides, and plenty of blocky Jibbitz. The collab even extended into the game itself, with players able to snag a free pair of digital Crocs for their in-game character.

Microsoft has yet to issue an official announcement about the Crocs or confirm whether the bundle will be made available via its consumer storefronts or external retailers.
