Aichi Nagoya International Animation Film Festival (ANIAFF), the new animation film festival launching this year in Nagoya, will feature a retrospective centered around director Mamoru Hosoda, it was announced today.
The section, titled Director Focus, will feature several films by the director, including The Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Belle. No word yet on whether the director himself will make an appearance.
It’s a big year for Hosoda, who has a new film coming out in the winter: Scarlet, which was recently chosen to play at the Toronto and Venice International Film Festivals. The film is due out in Japan on November 21 and North America on December 12.
Other Hosoda films include Summer Wars, Wolf Children, The Boy and the Beast and Mirai, which was nominated for an Oscar.
Meanwhile, the inaugural ANIAFF is set for December 12-17 in Nagoya. It will feature an international competition section of films longer than 40 minutes plus several other sections and talk events. Nagoya/Aichi is known for the World Cosplay Summit as well as Ghibli Park.
