When it comes to injury updates, New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll hasn’t issued too much on his rookie running back, Cam Skattebo.
This week, Skattebo has been on and off the practice field, as he deals with a mysterious setback. There’s no definitive update on Skattebo, but one Giants insider believes that a hamstring issue is in play for the rookie.
“Daboll has been in regular season mode with injury updates, but believe it’s a hamstring for Skattebo,” The Athletic’s Dan Duggan reported on Friday.
Prior to Friday’s session, Skattebo was hardly a participant in multiple training camp sessions. It was a positive sign when the young running back returned to action on Friday, especially since the Giants were fully suited up.

However, it wasn’t long before Skattebo was out of the mix. His practice was reportedly cut short.

Despite being a mid-round pick, Skattebo has a real chance to collect some snaps this upcoming season. Although the Giants are likely to issue a majority of their carries to Tyrone Tracy, the backfield could work as a collective. So far, Skattebo seems to be impressing his teammates and coaches through his first week of action.
“I think that it’s a great addition to the room,” Tracy recently told reporters, regarding the presence of Skattebo this year.
“If you look around our room, there’s really nothing anyone can’t do. We didn’t add Cam just to do one thing. We added him because he’s a good running back. You know what I’m saying? They didn’t bring me here just to do one thing.”

The Giants’ backfield is technically competing for carries during the summer, but Tracy revealed that roles aren’t defined.
“At the end of the day, whoever’s in there on third down, second down, first down, it doesn’t matter what it is. You’re going to produce, and that’s the standard that we have in a running back room,” Tracy added.
Skattebo will need luck in the health department in order to remain on his positive trajectory heading into year one. The Giants are just one week away from kicking off their preseason against the Buffalo Bills. If Skattebo can make it healthy, he’ll have a great opportunity in front of him.
