Prior to joining academia, Dr. Cox enjoyed a distinguished 31-year career in federal government service, culminating in her role as human resources director from 2024 to 2025, she served as deputy director in the policy department at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, following a 2.5-year tenure as HR director within CMS at Health and Human Services. Her earlier federal leadership roles included positions as human resources officer at NIWC Atlantic, civilian personnel officer for the U.S. Air Force, deputy director at the Department of Energy, and HR director at the Defense Logistics Agency. These appointments reflect her expansive expertise in personnel management and strategic leadership across multiple federal agencies.
Dr. Cox’s academic foundation has been key to her professional success. She earned a Doctorate in organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix in 2021, a master’s degree in human resources management from Central Michigan University in 2001, and a bachelor’s degree in human resources management from Franklin University in 1996. Her dedication to lifelong learning is also evident in her professional development, including earning a dissertation to publication workshop digital badge from the University of Phoenix in 2022.
Beyond her professional roles, Dr. Cox is deeply engaged in her community. She is a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., contributing to initiatives such as the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Walk, and Operation Big Book Bag. Additionally, she is affiliated with Sigma Chi Psi Sorority, participating in outreach efforts with the Ronald McDonald House, feeding the homeless with her local church, and visiting nursing homes. In her personal time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her children and grandchildren, family, friends and practicing self-care.
Dr. Cox is also a published author, with notable contributions including her 2024 article, “Transmitting Generational Knowledge,” in the Journal of Fundamental and Applied Business Research, and her 2022 co-authored book, “Navigating the Doctoral Journey with an Accountability Partner,” published by Allen Cox Publishing alongside Dr. Alisa Allen, and her book Cleadership published by Christian Faith Publishing in 2022. Her scholarship focuses on cultural leadership and effective strategies for generational knowledge transfer.
